Atkins Book

I just got the new Atkins Diet book in the mail yesterday (thanks, Mom)!  I am enjoying reading it so far, and I particularly appreciate the menu plans it has.  I have been doing really good so far on induction- my goal is to try to stay in the induction phase until I have met my goal weight of 135.  Hmmm, so I have to lose 35 lbs to get there... I am going to miss carbs until then!

iPhones are Awesome!

So I am so excited to be posting from my iPhone today! Mike got it for me and I love it. I have gotten a bit off track lately but haven't gained weight. Today I am renewing my effort to eat less then 20 grams of carbs per day. I have a cool app that I can log my food and calculates my net carbs for me. There are. Lot of carbs in veggies and fruit! My breakfast had a surprising 10 grams of carbs so I only have 10 left for the day. I guess I will have to eat meat and coconut oil and cheese. Seems so wrong! Next time I will add more eggs, and have fewer bell peppers and blueberries.  I need to buy more leafy greens because they are tasty with eggs but have less net carbs.

Here's a pic of my breakfast:

Meat and Cheese Overload

Yesterday I was getting ready to give up on this low carb diet.  I felt like I had been stalled in the 170's for quite some time, and I am getting realy sick of just meat, cheese, and veggies!  But this morning I weighed 169.4, and my faith in the diet is restored!  I think part of th "problem" with this diet is you don't get the wild weight fluctuations that you do when you are eating carbs.  I do not bloat or retain water eating this way, so I think the scale is more accurate.  With regular diets, bloat can make you feel like you gained three pounds one day and then lost four the next, so you are on this constant rollercoaster of success and failure.  With this ultra low carb diet, you can be "stuck" at 170 for several days, and that can feel like forever!  But in actuality, the weight you see on the scale is an accurate representation of fat lost.  They say that a one to two pound weight loss per week is about right and, aside from the first week, that is about what I have been averaging.  The most important thing for me is that this diet is doable. Even on days when I am really hungry, I can eat as much as I like.  That is awesome.  I can (and do) eat a lot.  I am honestly shocked that I have not gained weight on this diet.  Today I am going to go to the gym for the first time in a while (maybe 3 weeks) so hopefully that goes ok!!

Added: my workout felt really good, I had lots of energy and felt really strong.  I did some Yoga in Reflexions Gym Summer Clinic, it was a great way to start off my week.  Then I did 15 minutes of cardio.  I could have done more but I didn't want to be too sore for tomorrow (Zumba!).

Super Success on Low Carb

So I have a renewed faith in my ability to diet and lose weight.  Over the past few weeks I have been doing ultra low carb at the insistence of Mom.  This is the easiest and most effective diet I have ever done!  Basically I just eat whenever I want to until I am satisfied. This morning I weighed 170.6, and I feel like I am well on my way to being in he 160's soon, hopefully by the end of this week.  I sometimes feel hungry, and sometimes crave sugar and carbs, but it is not that bad.  Before whn I was eating carbs I felt completely incapable of controling my portions.  I will post a bit later exactly the things I have been eating, and what I have not been eating.

Sugar and Wheat

I think I'm going to try a no white sugar no wheat diet for a while.  Not that I eat a lot of wheat anyways since it makes me feel yack-y.  Post a comment if you have ever tried no white sugar or no wheat or both and was it successful?  Too hard?

Even though I have only lost a few pounds, I am really happy with the way I look now!  The last few times
I have looked in the mirror has been a pleasant surprise.  Smile.

Heart Burn

Last night I woke up at 4:30a.m. with horrible heartburn!  It totally sucked.  I think it might be because I had anchovie pizza last night.  This is the second time in a week I have had a really painful heartburn episode.  I don't know why it is starting to happen to me all of a sudden, but I swear I am never eating pizza again!  I was afraid to eat for a while this morning, thats how bad the heartburn had been.  I finally had a gluten free ginger cookie and a taco.  I felt a little upset tummy, but no heartburn so thats good.  I hope those two heartburn episodes were just a fluke, and that it doesn't happen again.  On the bright side, the pizza didn't seem to derail my current weight downward trend- I weighed 174.8 this morning which I was very pleased about.
